As previously mentioned, I have ended my sale on my first book, Musings on Minutiae. It was $0.99 for a year and hopefully you, the reader, took advantage of the great price! If you did pick up a copy of the book, it’d mean the world to me if you could drop a review on Amazon. If you’ve yet to pick up a copy, the paperback is still just $10 and the Kindle version can be downloaded for just $1.99 (which is still quite a steal).

I’ve recently spent some time working on book #2 and according to my tracker in the sidebar, I’m running at about %49 percent completion. This is pre-editing phase, so things may get shorter or longer once I revisit them. Currently, I have 11 essays written for the book and I feel strongly that each of them will rival anything from the first book. I’m also taking a different approach this round in quality over quantity. Upon release you’ll notice that these stories are much longer than the previous, taking the time to find the humor in the little details and events within the big picture. It will be an interesting mix of short and long essays we well as some great one-liners that I’ve been compiling.

Lots of reviewers said that my last book was great for the bathroom. This one will be no exception!

Big thanks to the sudden jump in traffic over the past few days. It seems that my article on promoting your book through Facebook.com is really taking off! Big thanks for coming by the site and I hope you get a ton of good info from it!

While I have you hear, just wanted to give you a heads up that the Kindle version of my humor book, Musings on Minutiae, is still JUST $0.99!! If you’re looking to pick it up, I encourage you to do so quickly because in February I’ll be raising the price to help fund my next book! Get it while it’s cheap (not content-wise) and be sure to let me know what you think!

I’m not sure where the time goes anymore. Is this a side effect of getting older?
The rest of my night will be spent searching the internet for schematics to a Time Machine that I can construct in my garage.

A few months back I mentioned plans for another book to follow 2009′s Musings on Minutiae. New material has slowly been making it’s way from my brain to the computer screen, so here’s the latest update:

May Word Count: 17,800
Current Word Count as of July 1st: 20,100
Difference: 2,300
Final Goal: 60,000
Words Remaining: 39,900

In addition to being a guest on several book-related podcasts and spending a ton of time in May and June working on music for my band’s new album, I also got some reading in:

Books Read in May & June:

  1. Writer’s Market Guide to Getting Published (Edited) by Writer’s Digest Books
  2. A Writer’s Space by Eric Maisel
  3. Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey
  4. The Well-Fed Self-Publisher by Peter Bowerman
  5. Humor Me: An Anthology of Funny Contemporary Writing (Edited) by Ian Frazier
  6. On Writing by Stephen King
  7. The Well-Fed Writer by Peter Bowerman
  8. Kick Me by Paul Feig

You can read my reviews of these titles at Goodreads.com.

Remember, Musings on Minutiae is still available for your Kindle for just $0.99!

During the process of releasing my humor book, Musings on Minutiae, I did a ton of research on how to market it and find a readership. As previously mentioned, I read a lot of great books on the subject, learned a ton, and built a pretty solid foundation for myself.

Recently, I had several readers ask me what books I would recommend. After several times typing out the book titles, why I liked them, and what I learned, it made sense to devote an article to my Top 5 favorite books about book marketing. And yes, I realize how redundant that sounds.

So in addition to my previous articles on how to promote your book via social networking, I introduce a new article devote to my favorite marketing books:
5 Titles on Book Marketing and Promotion that You Need to Read

Like all others, this article is sure to receive updates as I find a new volume that I find to be especially informative. I still have several more installments of the “Social Networking” series planned, but if you have suggestions or feedback on any of them, let me know. Unlike your best friend, I actually WANT your honest opinion!

During the process of releasing my humor book, Musings on Minutiae, I did a ton of research on how to market it and find a readership. I read a lot of great books on the subject and what felt like a million websites trying to absorb as much as I could on the process.

What I realized is that while there are a ton of ideas out there, a lot of them are just rehashes of one another, and many marketing techniques require quite a bit of money that most authors do not seem to have just laying around.

I decided to write a series of articles about my personal experience with marketing my own book which will detail techniques that have worked for me and led to sales of my title. My word is by no means professional or the best advice, but what works for one person typically works for another. I hope you’re able to make a million dollars, and I can’t wait to see the film adaptation of your book.

Over the last couple months, I published articles about promoting through Goodreads.com and promoting through Shelfari.com.

The newest installment, Promoting Your Book Online through Paperbackswap.com, is available now!

More articles to come in this series! If you have suggestions or feedback on any of them, let me know. I promise I’m not like that one guy you work with who just doesn’t want to hear it!
